The following student council’s submitted portfolios to receive the Student Council of the Year Award. This award determines which council’s have excelled and demonstrated success in a wide-range of student council activities. Award levels are Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The district is pleased to announce that all of the LCPS schools that submitted earned the highest accolades. The following schools received Gold status: Vista Middle School, Arrowhead Park Early College High School, and Organ Mountain High School. The next schools received Platinum awards, which means they have earned the gold status for three or more consecutive years: Centennial High School, Las Cruces High School and Mayfield High School. Congratulations to all of the winners!

Congratulations to all the LCPS teams who received awards and to all who participated in the 2024 Mock Trial Regional Competition this weekend in Albuquerque. Way to go APECHS, CHS, LCHS and OMHS! Awards: Centennial - Selected as one of the Top 16 teams out of 40 to advance to NMAA State Mock Trial competition in March. Nearly 800 students are expected to tour a maze of career opportunities at Las Cruces Public Schools’ Plan My Future career exploration fair on Feb. 29 at the LCPS Field of Dreams. The event is organized by the LCPS Career and Technical Education team (CTE) to reach middle and high school students who might be interested in various career paths outside of college. Yesterday, the City of Las Cruces, in collaboration with the League of Women Voters and the Las Cruces Public Schools, hosted the "Know Your Local Government" event. Ten students from four LCPS high schools, chosen by their government teachers, delved into crucial issues facing Las Cruces – beautification, litter/weed problems, affordable housing, youth activities, and the impact of urban heat. These students collaborated with City of Las Cruces experts, gaining valuable insights into the proposed challenges. In the Council Chambers, they presented their resolutions to peers and a panel of judges from the League of Women Voters. The winning group focused on sustainability and not only received recognition but earned an invitation to present their compelling case to Las Cruces City Council, advocating for the prioritization of the issue they investigated. Congratulations to all the participants for their dedication and passion in making a positive impact on our community! #KnowYourLocalGovernment

Every February, people in the United States celebrate the achievements and history of African Americans as part of Black History Month. Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honors all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today. Today, we celebrate the life and accomplishments of Serena Williams. She is a beacon to many as she dominated the world of professional tennis for decades, making a name for herself in the history books. Serena Williams is a tremendous success and an inspiration. LCPS parents, Our bus partner, STS of New Mexico, has been receiving updates on a construction project along Main Street that could delay bus service for students. From now until October 2024, portions of Main between Elks and Solano could experience temporary closures, lane restrictions and traffic congestion. We understand that construction will pose challenges to our daily routines, and we ask for your patience as STS of New Mexico works to ensure everyone's safety while looking into adjusting bus routes.
